DreDay Tribute: Cloverfield (2008)

I bring sad news that DreDay, SwampCox's founding father, has merged with the infinite. As a tribute to his passion for movies, and the fun times we had with this blog, here's the trailer to Cloverfield.

Not only was Cloverfield one of his first SwampCox posts in 2007, it was one of the first things we talked about when he joined the arthouse movie theater where GhostDog, Exploder, and I worked as projectionists. He loved the movie's viral ARG-esque marketing that rewarded online sleuthing and we spent many a day theorizing on what the monster would look like.

In his own words from 2007-era Swampcox: "Seriously, it's gotta be a giant whale..."

Knowing - 2009

Yet another masterpiece from the finest actor living today, Nicolas Cage. What's that? You disagree with me? Sir, your earnestness offends me and I demand satisfaction! Only one man can harbor the awesomely brass balls necessary to accept every single script that crosses his desk, no matter how ridiculous, stupid, remade or comic book related. Plus he named his child after Superman. Nic Cage will one day ascend to a heaven the likes of which most of us can only dream to take his place among the Great Spirits of Kitsch.

Sorcerer - 1977

Forget the fact that this movie probably rules and that you've never heard of it despite the fact that it features Roy Scheider and was directed by William Friedkin. Forget that this trailer means there's an entire narrative version floating out in the world somewhere. Forget the killer seventies trailer throaty dub voice, and just bask in the truly brilliant construction of this thing. A series of completely unconnected images, most featuring guns or explosions, underneath a soundtrack that can only be the synth baby of John Carpenter and Goblin, while providing absolutely no information about the plot of the film at all. I could probably watch this shit all day. Now THAT's how you make a fucking trailer!

PS: Apparently it's also a remake of Clouzot's Wages of Fear.

Samurai Cop - 1989

Here's hopefully the only time this will ever happen: IMDB doesn't allow embedding of their trailers, or if they do it's not very easy to figure out how to do it. So here's a link to the trailer for Samurai Cop, possibly the greatest movie ever made. Go ahead and watch the trailer, then come back. I'll wait for it.

* * * * *

Holy shit. Samurai Cop. What can I say about this movie that the trailer doesn't immediately fucking tell you? I know that it's terrible and unrelentingly awesome all at the same time. It's about a cop who's a samurai. This doesn't even need a plot. Samurai Cop goes around killing bad guys who burn his girlfriend with bacon grease, that's the only plot you need to know. This trailer must have been part of a Joe Bob Briggs collection, but it's the only one I could find, so you're stuck with it.

Here's a little snippet of just how awesome this fucking movie is, courtesy of AkumuHau, who has many more clips of many more awful, awful movies.
