The Explorers - 1985

No, it's not a trailer, unfortunately. It's a seven minute section of the actual film but is pretty accurate to what the rest of the movie is like. Directed by Joe 'Gremlins 2' Dante and intended apparently to ruin the minds of children, just like everything else Joe Dante directed. Featuring River Phoenix and Ethan Hawke in the roles that led to their eventual drug-related deaths (Ethan Hawke's is still coming up).

This post might, on the surface, seem like an appeal to fans of eighties comedies and Kim Basinger, but it's not. It's actually for Buffy fans, as this movie features both Alyson Hannigan and Seth Green, who, of course, later worked together as Willow and Oz, possibly the best coupling on the show. (I know, you're gonna say Angel and Buffy's romance was epic, but, whatever; she's a witch and he's a werewolf. It's awesome). There's other stuff to, but that's what's important about this movie to me.

Cleopatra 2525 - 2000

Woe unto you, sweet UPN fans, who missed this short-lived and completely awful television series about three attractive women who fight giant badly-animated robots in an underground megalopolis where all humanity has continued to survive in spite of their mechanized overseers' disdain for and desire to murder them. This has to be the most awesome theme song ever created for a show that's essentially about latex, miniskirts and laser guns.

Real Genius - 1985

What I like best about this trailer is the ominous first ten or so seconds, which appear to be the lead-in to a campy zombie film. Seriously though, this should be a cultural touchstone for anyone who likes to make references to movies that only one other person in any given social setting have seen. It's worth mentioning that the writer of this movie has been involved with every single Police Academy film and the ill-fated, short-lived television series.
